Steelers Injury Report: WR Markus Wheaton on track to return...again

The Pittsburgh Steelers were back at work Wednesday, and it is time to take a look at who returned, and who possibly missed practice to prepare for the Eagles in Week 3.

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Steelers returned to practice Wednesday, their first official practice with an official injury report of the week, and as Mike Tomlin suggested on Tuesday, wide receiver Markus Wheaton is on schedule to return to the team this Sunday when they travel to the city of brotherly love to play the Philadelphia Eagles.

But we've heard this story before.

Leading into the team's Week 2 game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Wheaton was a full participant in practice Wednesday and Thursday, but was limited on Friday and eventually listed as inactive on game day. Some were suggesting a setback in the shoulder which has caused him to miss a large portion of the preseason and the start of the regular season, but Wheaton himself suggested he was healthy enough to play.

So, what kept him off the field? He needed more practice reps with the offense to get re-acclimated to the system. After two weeks of practice, he should be ready to return to the field, and his presence will be felt when it comes to the schemes the offense can now throw at the Eagles defense.

Tomlin also mentioned in his press conference how Cody Wallace and Roosevelt Nix would both be returning to practice, but Wallace (knee) was held out of Wednesday's workout, and Nix (back) returned, but was limited.
