As if the aftermath of the Pittsburgh Steelers Week 3 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles wasn't enough, the ridiculous amount of injuries Pittsburgh faces will leave some very untested players being on the field Sunday night when the Kansas City Chiefs come to Heinz Field, unless some players get better quicker than expected.
Ryan Shazier (knee), Robert Golden (hamstring), Sean Davis (back), Ramon Foster (chest) and Eli Rogers (toe) are significant players who missed the first practice of the week in preparation of Week 4.
If these players aren't able to play, you will see starters like B.J. Finney and Jordan Dangerfield for the first time in their young careers. Some call it an opportunity, but you have to wonder just how long Pittsburgh can continue to win with the "next man up" mantra.
Nonetheless, not all injury news was bad. Inside linebacker Lawrence Timmons returned as a full participant on Wednesday, a great sign for the defense. Without Timmons in the lineup they would be relying on L.J. Fort and Vince Williams to anchor the middle of the defense, and although those players are tremendous in their own right, the Steelers need Timmons' experience to help them win this Sunday.
The Steelers certainly have an uphill climb ahead of them, and the resiliency of this team will be tested to the max in Week 4. How they respond will be very telling for the team many picked to represent the AFC in Super Bowl 51.
