For several weeks now, the Pittsburgh Steelers have been the recipients of a very healthy roster. Entire weeks have come and gone in which only a handful of players were even mentioned on the Wednesday injury report, let alone missing time.
While I wouldn’t exactly say the injury bug has bitten the Steelers heading into a Week-7 game against the Cincinnati Bengals, there certainly is some doubt clouding the availability of some starters this Sunday.
At Mike Tomlin’s weekly press conference, he gave a quick recap of the injuries and was more optimistic about some injured players than others.
Marcus Gilbert, who re-injured his hamstring, is receiving treatment but there isn’t much hope he’ll return to the lineup for the game at Heinz Field Sunday. Other than Gilbert, Tomlin was ‘optimistic’ about the return of Ramon Foster to the lineup. Foster missed Week 6 with a back injury. Tomlin also echoed optimism concerning the status of Vince Williams, who left the Chiefs game with a hip injury. But the head coach did add Tyler Matakevich, with a shoulder injury, to the list of players banged up after their trip to Arrowhead Stadium.
The true test for all of these injured players is their level of participation at practice, and the team’s first reported practice is on Wednesday afternoon. Stay tuned to BTSC for the latest on these injuries and other news surrounding the Black-and-gold leading up to the huge AFC North showdown with the Bengals on Sunday.
