The Pittsburgh Steelers, along with all other 31 NFL teams, are making the necessary adjustments to their 90-man offseason roster as they prepare for the offseason, free agency and the NFL Draft.
While the Steelers continue to sign their own free agents, they are also adding several unemployed players to their offseason roster. On Monday, the team added a pair of defensive linemen, on Tuesday they added six players to their roster, and one player has a last name you might recognize.
LB Akil Blount
Son of Steelers legend, and Hall of Fame cornerback, Blount was an undrafted signing by the Miami Dolphins in 2016, but didn’t make it through training camp.
LB Jason Fanaika
Signed with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2016. Was released during training camp and signed to the Oakland Raiders practice squad before finishing 2016 on the Washigton Redskins practice squad.
Offensive lineman Kyle Friend
Played at Temple, was signed by the New York Jets as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2016 and spent time on their practice squad.
CB Devonte Johnson
Played at Weber State, signed with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2016, was released before the start of the season.
Offensive lineman Mike Matthews
Son of Hall of Fame offensive lineman Bruce Matthews, signed with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2016. Played at Texas A&M, was waived prior to the start of the regular season.
RB Trey Williams
Williams was an undrafted rookie free agent with the Washington Redskins in 2015. Played at Texas A&M, also spent time with the Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots, Miami Dolphins and Indianapolis Colts.
