The Pittsburgh Steelers are thin at the tight end position. There is no way around that simple fact. Ladarius Green’s health remains a concern, Jesse James has proven his worth, but lacks genuine playmaking ability, David Johnson is a free agent and Xavier Grimble looks to be back on a one-year contract for next season.
Not a lot of proven talent, but the Steelers added to that depth chart Thursday when they announced the signing of Ryan Malleck to a reserve/futures contract.

As reported by Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Malleck played his college football at Virginia Tech, and spent a short period of time with the New York Giants prior to the 2016 season.
Although the odds of Malleck making the team seem like a stretch, he will have his shot to show coaches what he can do as a member of the Steelers’ 90-man offseason roster as the NFL Draft and free agency quickly approach.
