Eric Dickerson knows a thing or two about running the football, and the Hall of Fame tailback recently chimed in on who he believes is currently the league’s best back. It came down to two choices, Pittsburgh Steelers Le’Veon Bell or Dallas Cowboys Ezekiel Elliott.
Dickerson wisely sided with Bell.
"I have to say it's between Le'Veon Bell and Ezekiel Elliott. I think, for me, I think I have to go Le'Veon Bell. He does so many things, coming out of the backfield, lining up outside. He's big. I'm partial to big backs. I'm 6-foot-3. I think Le'Veon Bell, to me, is the best back in the NFL." Dickerson said via a Facebook Live video for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Dallas fans will certainly side with their prized ball carrier, and likewise with Pittsburgh fans, but it should be noted Elliott performed as a rookie in 2016. Sure, some might view that as more impressive, but there is a chance he doesn’t repeat as such a dominating force in his sophomore season. On the other hand, Bell as proven his ability time and time again, and has changed the running back position from style to versatility.
Per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Elliott was able break off an astounding 1,631 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns as a rookie. However, in his fourth NFL season, Bell averaged 157 total yards per game, third-most all time for a running back.
With both of these ball carriers having plenty of years left in the league, this is a debate which isn’t going away anytime soon. The debate used to be DeMarco Murray vs. Le’Veon Bell, but has now changed from Elliott vs. Bell.
