“This list is a joke.”
Houston Texans defensive tackle J.J. Watt said that when he was ranked 35th on the NFL Network’s Top 100 list after playing just three games in 2016.
I think it is a safe assumption most people who follow the rankings of this list feel the same way, and Pittsburgh Steelers fans certainly feel this way when they hear Ben Roethlisberger was ranked 22nd.
Although Roethlisberger didn’t have the best statistical season last year, and did miss some time with a knee injury, it is hard to believe there are 5 quarterbacks who are considered better than him in the NFL. However, fans should realize the job of ranking players is not only put in the hands of others, but finding a spot for someone like Drew Brees, who plays on a sub par team, compared to Roethlisberger who made it to the AFC Championship game, is no easy task.
Last year Roethlisberger was ranked No. 21 on the list, and if I had to guess, I would suggest Roethlisberger won’t lose much sleep over his ranking on the Top 100. Could it provide some motivation? Possibly, but most likely the goal to win another Super Bowl will trump a silly TV list.
If you missed the event, you can watch Roethlisberger’s segment below:
