The nature of the business in the NFL is an injury to an undrafted rookie free agent means that is the end of the road. At least with that team, and possibly that season.
That is what happened to Pittsburgh Steelers, and former University of Pittsburgh, tight end Scott Orndoff. Orndoff was waived injured, forcing them to sign another tight end, Jake McGee.
Steelers waive TE Scott Orndoff of Pitt, sign TE Jake McGee, who will wear No. 80

There is a chance Orndoff could be re-signed, if he clears waivers, but the truth of the matter was he had an uphill battle to make the team. With David Johnson, Jesse James and Xavier Grimble as the top three tight ends on the current roster, Orndoff, or now McGee, would have to hope for an injury, or else they will likely be playing for a spot on the team’s 10-man practice squad.
For those wanting some background on the newest addition to the Steelers, check out what some writers were saying on Twitter about McGee.

New #Steelers TE Jake McGee - Good blocker at Florida, tough kid, hurt often, poor athlete, good hands, no YAC, no upside, but > Orndoff.
