Conflicting reports make Todd Haley’s New Year’s situation even more strange

When fans thought Haley fell and was injured, the Pittsburgh Police say otherwise.

Just when you thought the Pittsburgh Steelers being on a bye prior to their Divisional Round matchup in the AFC Playoffs would equate to a quiet week — think again.

Leave it to a coach to make waves for the second year in a row. Last year, following the Steelers’ Wild Card win over the Miami Dolphins, it was Joey Porter who was arrested, and eventually suspended, for his part in an altercation in a Pittsburgh bar.

This year, it is offensive coordinator Todd Haley. What started as a report of Haley being injured after a fall on New Year’s Eve has turned into something completely different, making many wonder what is really going on?

WTAE’s Beau Berman posted this on his verified Twitter account:

Here is the statement from the Pittsburgh Police Department:

It was not Todd Haley, but his wife Christine Haley.

Detail officers were summoned to Tequila Cowboy restaurant on North Shore Drive for a minor scuffle involving Haley’s wife shortly after midnight on January 1st, 2017. The scuffle was quickly ended. Todd Haley was not involved nor injured.
Todd and Christine Haley were escorted out.
No injuries. No charges.

Talk about a change of direction from those initial reports, one of which came via Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

There is a strong sense this story is far from over. Stay tuned to BTSC for the latest on this story and others surrounding the Steelers.

UPDATE:

Reports are now suggesting the Steelers’ offensive coordinator was involved in two incidents. One inside the bar, and another outside the bar which resulted in him injuring his hip.
