In Pittsburgh there is a very prestigious award called the ‘Dapper Dan’ award. The more technical term for the award is the ‘Dapper Dan Dr. Freddie Fu Sports Leadership Award’, and Steelers General Manager Kevin Colbert was a recipient of the award this year.
During his acceptance speech, he acknowledged two main people for their specific part in this award. The first person he talked about was injured linebacker Ryan Shazier. He spoke of going to see Shazier in the hospital after suffering his back injury vs. the Bengals on Monday Night Football, and how never once has Shazier asked, “Why me?” But all he consistently does is talk about getting back on the football field.
Shazier then received a standing ovation, which he stood for himself, showing appreciation for the fans, and also proving he is continually improving, something he spoke about recently while appearing on Roosevelt Nix’s podcast.
Other than Shazier, Colbert also spoke about the late ambassador Dan Rooney. The influence Rooney had on him left an indelible mark, and something he truly cherished while working together for all those years. Art Rooney II was present for the occasion.
