The Pittsburgh Steelers might not be extremely active in free agency, but they certainly will be doing their part in releasing players to give them the salary cap freedom to make moves. There are several players who could be ‘cap casualties’, and cornerback William Gay certainly was on the list.
Monday Gay took to Instagram to announce he won’t be returning to the team in 2018.
Despite the news of Gay not returning to the Steelers, he did suggest he does want to play in 2018 for a contender. There were some who thought Gay might walk away from the game, but that doesn’t intend to be his plan at this time.
While once thought to be a player who could be a cornerback-turned-safety, Gay’s speed has declined significantly over the past two seasons. Throw in the fact the team has a plethora of cornerbacks on the roster, and the writing was on the wall.
Look for Cameron Sutton and Mike Hilton the be the biggest recipients of playing time with Gay now out of the equation.
