No. 55 for Cincinnati has been a thorn in the Steelers’ side for years now, and it looks as if the Bengals captain could be missing some time to start the 2018 regular season.
This from ESPN’s Adam Schefter:
Bengals’ LB Vontaze Burfict is facing a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s Performance-Enhancing Drug policy, pending appeal, league sources tell ESPN. No appeal date yet.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 16, 2018
Burfict could appeal the suspension, and the 4-game ban could be reduced, but when a player takes a substance on the performance enhancing banned list, it is usually pretty cut-and-dry.
The next question on every Steelers fans’ mind is whether the Steelers will play Cincinnati in the first quarter of the season, avoiding Burfict for one of the two regular meetings. That answer won’t come out until the schedule is released in April, but the way Burfict plays is with a clear intent to injure the opposition.
Before this news, Burfict was the subject of trade talks with the Oakland Raiders, although this revelation will most likely end, or slow down, any talks with Jon Gruden’s club as the offseason drags on.
