Now with the Pittsburgh Steelers 23-16 loss to the Denver Broncos clearly in the rear view mirror, I can finally sit back and reflect on my first season as editor of this fine establishment known as Behind The Steel Curtain. It was about a month before the 2015 NFL Draft when I took over the reigns as editor here, and to say it was a whirlwind was an understatement.
Going from a contributor to the editor isn't just a change in title, it is a change in work load, professionalism and especially time. The bar was set high from the previous leaders, and I was determined to not only meet those expectations, but to raise the bar even higher.
A very slow offseason made for some restless natives as they longed for GIFs, break downs and less "fluff" (their word, not mine). After several FanPost venting sessions and me getting a team I was comfortable with from an editorial standpoint, the season couldn't have started soon enough.
It was a learning process for everyone involved, and many -- writers and contributors included -- jumped ship with the change in leadership, but when the season started, to say news was scarce might be the understatement of the year. Injuries, suspensions, trades...you name it, it happened to the 2015 Steelers, and BTSC was right there to break the news.
I have worked hard to bring a professionalism to the website. Less "bloggish" articles, and more legitimate journalism. With Dani Bostick's off season interviews, Mike Frazer and Anthony Defeo's commentary, Bryan Davis' humor and knack for pissing off commenters, and of course Christopher Carter's awesome work with the GIFs and breakdowns and fantasy football I feel we accomplished this feet. This season BTSC brought a lot to the table. Everything from Film Rooms, fantasy football advice, t-shirts and much more.
With the season over, as the editor, I feel better equipped for the upcoming offseason than I did a year ago, and the site should benefit from this. Hopefully you enjoy the site, the community and this little place we all call home enough to share it with every Steelers fan you see.
I want to take the time to thank you, the readers, for making this site special. There is a reason a lot of other Steelers sites try to duplicate what we have here at BTSC, and it all starts with the community. More importantly, I'd like to thank my writers and contributors who have worked tirelessly throughout the season to give you the best Steelers coverage imaginable, and sometimes for little to no pay at all. Your work doesn't go unnoticed.
So, we now embark on another offseason, but BTSC isn't about to slow down. We will now turn our attention to free agency, breaking down each position, the Scouting Combine, the NFL Draft and of course NFL Free Agency. There is still plenty to discuss with the Steelers moving forward.
We have broken traffic records in nearly every month of the year, and will continue to set the bar higher and higher. I look forward to the challenge, but want to add if there is anyone out there who would like to be a contributor to the site, and you have writing experience, please feel free to email me or leave a comment below. I am looking for people to write in the following areas:
- College Football/NFL Draft
- Fantasy Football
- News
- Commentary
- League-based News and Commentary
Again, I can't thank you all enough for my first successful season as editor. The Steelers made it to the Divisional round in my first year as captain of this ship...next year we all finally get that 7th Lombardi! Here we Go!
Onward and upward...
