Pittsburgh Steelers Mount Rushmore: Backup Quarterbacks

Just like “It’s a Wonderful Life”, “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation”, “A Christmas Story” and “Die Hard” make up the Mount Rushmore of holiday cinema, there are many “Fab Four” in Steeler Nation lore yet to be decided.

Last time, we examined the four greatest sackers of all time in “"the Burgh”. James Harrison, L.C. Greenwood, Jason Gildon and Greg Lloyd made the mountain.

In a lot of NFL cities, the back up quarterback is the most popular guy around. Fans sing him the highest of praises, while it’s often discussed the magic that he would make if the coach would just call his number instead of the current option. That is until he gets a chance to play. Then all bets are usually off.

In Pittsburgh at this particular juncture, a backup with a helmet on and a ball in his grasp is akin to Armageddon. That's going to be the case when you have a franchise QB the caliber of one Benjamin Todd Roethlisberger.
