Rival Roundup 3/31: Cincinnati Bengals make pair of key moves late in free agency

Time to take the pulse of the other teams who call the AFC North home after the initial free agency surge, and while preparing for the NFL Draft.

Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

When it comes to the Cincinnati Bengals, better late than never. As the rest of the NFL thrived in the first few days of NFL Free Agency, the Bengals watched several play makers depart for new teams in 2016. While the Bengals made some internal moves, signing some of their own free agents, the team finally made some moves outside their own walls.

Earlier this week the the team acquired veteran inside linebacker Karlos Dansby from the Cleveland Browns, and most recently added wide receiver Brandon LaFell from the New England Patriots to their roster. Both moves were crucial for a team still trying to patch a roster together without some of the faces which have become synonymous with Cincinnati for the past few years.

The addition of Dansby will give the Bengals stability and experience at the ILB position, but bringing in LaFell will help fill the role of Marvin Jones and Mohammed Sanu, who were both jettisoned via free agency. LaFell had a disappointing 2015 season which was plagued with injuries, but LaFell never had an A.J. Green type player opposite him in New England. LaFell certainly will add another weapon to Andy Dalton's arsenal as the team prepares for the upcoming season.
