A report surfaced Sunday evening Steelers RB LaRod Stephens-Howling suffered a torn ACL in Pittsburgh's Week 1 loss to Tennessee. If confirmed, it would be the third player lost to significant injury from that game.

Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports tweeted Sunday evening that Steelers running back LaRod Stephens-Howling suffered a torn ACL in the Steelers' 16-9 loss to the Titans.

If confirmed, it would make the third Steelers player from that game to suffer a season-ending injury. Center Maurkice Pouncey tore his ACL and MCL, and linebacker Larry Foote suffered a ruptured biceps.

Stephens-Howling went down in the second half, with the game slipping away. He initially appeared to be able to get off the field under his own power, but eventually fell to the ground.

The rash of injuries the Steelers suffered in that game means a slew of roster moves are coming, and judging by the team's inadequate performance, perhaps more on top of that will come. RB Le'Veon Bell isn't likely to return for Week 2, when the Steelers have a primetime game against division rival Cincinnati, meaning the Steelers will have two running backs - Isaac Redman, who fumbled twice and gained nine yards on eight carries and Felix Jones, who barely saw the field - along with FB Will Johnson.

Any kind of move will likely come at some point between Monday and Tuesday.

With the possibility of including LaRod Stephens-Howling in the Steelers' Bloody Sunday injury report following the loss to Tennessee, "the standard is the standard" isn't going to cut it. But what else can they do?

Update:

Records aren't kept for such things, but if they are, having three players - two starters and one who might have been a starter in Week 2 - lost for a season in one game has to be at least a spot of prominence in those books.

Hearing LaRod Stephens-Howling (knee) could be facing surgery too. Not a good day for the Steelers at all.

This hasn't been confirmed, nor has the severity of the injury LaRod Stephens-Howling sustained in the Steelers loss to the Titans Sunday, but it's getting ridiculous now.

The Steelers lost center Maurkice Pouncey and linebacker Larry Foote Sunday, and Stephens-Howling left the game with a knee injury during the second half. If Kinkhabwala's note here turns out to be Stephens-Howling's fate, the Steelers will be placing three players on injured-reserve, while tight end Matt Spaeth sits on IR-Recall.

Pouncey's injury shifts Beachum to center, which, as it turns out, robs the team of their second tight end - a position Beachum started at Sunday. That would mean either David Johnson or Michael Palmer would have to fill that role - keeping in mind neither were thought of enough to start over a back-up offensive lineman at the position.

Perhaps Heath Miller comes back next week, but like many of his teammates, he's still coming back from a knee injury.

Fullback Will Johnson did not play much in this game; he's nursing a bum hamstring. Le'Veon Bell is still coming back from a mid-foot sprain.

Jonathan Dwyer might have hurt himself leaving town, we can neither confirm nor deny. Even if he's as healthy as a horse, though, there's a pure soul's chance in Baltimore he'd sign with the Steelers now.

Cortez Allen's ankle injury isn't thought to be serious except for the fact it's his third injury since Week 14 of last year.

If anyone's keeping score, that's approximately a bleep ton of injuries for one team, and these are starting-level players. at what point do the Steelers step to the mirror and ask themselves two very difficult questions: 1.) Are we pushing them too hard in practice, and is that residual wear and tear what's causing these injuries? and 2.) Are our players just simply not tough - for all their effort and hard work, are their bodies just not capable of handling the rigors of this game?

It wasn't a great start for Stephens-Howling in his Steelers debut. His injury only tops off a dreadful performance from the Steelers' running game.

Welcome to the Steelers, LaRod. Now go get some ice.

The Steelers acquired former Cardinals running back LaRod Stephens-Howling in April, hoping to provide a charge as a passing downs back and kick returner.

His first game didn't exactly show his high-level ability in either area. But he did fit in with a growing theme in Pittsburgh.

LaRod Stephens-Howling has a right knee injury. He is out for the game.

Initially, Stephens-Howling appeared to be able to make it off the field, and was calling for a substitute. After hop-stepping a few times, he went down, and was helped off the sideline.

One positive to the situation is he was not immediately taken for an MRI, like center Maurkice Pouncey - who earlier was reported to have torn his ACL and MCL. He was on the sideline, appearing dejected, his knee wrapped in ice.

No report has given any specific status as to the extent of Stephens-Howling's injury, but considering the nearly grotesque performance from the Steelers running game - Isaac Redman in particular - and the lack of anything substantial from Felix Jones, the Steelers appear to be in quite a bit of trouble in their backfield.

Pittsburgh did not rush for a first down - something that could not have happened often in the last 30 years of the franchise. The team had 32 yards rushing, paced by Stephens-Howling's 19.

It really just couldn't have been much worse.

The Steelers lost two starters in Sunday's 16-9 loss to Tennessee - center Maurkice Pouncey and linebacker Larry Foote.

In what will end up being seen as one of the worst games of Mike Tomlin's tenure in Pittsburgh, he is assuming the loss of not only center Maurkice Pouncey, but linebacker Larry Foote as well.

Foote ruptured a biceps in the Steelers' 16-9 loss to the Tennessee Titans in Week 1. It came in wake of a contract extension Foote signed this offseason to help bridge the gap between a young and emerging defense and the old guard.

What's worse is Foote, as well as the Steelers' defense, played well in the loss. Short-changed by a dreadful performance on the offensive side of the ball, the Steelers defense kept what could have been a complete disaster of a game competitive until the end.

Kion Wilson replaced Foote during the game, although nothing will likely be said about him becoming the long-term replacement for him. The Steelers cut Stevenson Sylvester during training camp, and other back-up option, Marshall McFadden, signed with the Raiders practice squad.

Pouncey went down just four minutes into the game, rolled up on by right guard David DeCastro. The Steelers' offense had arguably its worst offensive performance in the last decade at home, and part of the reason could have been the absence of Pouncey.

Kelvin Beachum replaced him - the converted offensive tackle actually had started the game as the team's second tight end. Those plans quickly changed as Pouncey clutched his right knee in obvious pain after a gruesome sight.

The Steelers were again ravaged by injuries, and Tennessee manhandled their offensive line in the victory.

Update: Ryan Clark has returned to the game.

The Steelers are already dealing with the loss of center Maurkice Pouncey - as well as a formidable Titans pass rush. They've lost cornerback Cortez Allen and running back LaRod Stephens-Howling as well.

Felix Jones came in for Stephens-Howling instead of Isaac Redman, who has -4 yards and has fumbled twice, including once at the goal line in the Steelers' only drive into the red zone.

William Gay is in for Cortez Allen. His absence hasn't been an issue, as the Titans have had very little production through the air.

Safety Ryan Clark went down with a shoulder injury, and has been replaced by Robert Golden.

It's odd this game is close in the score, and without a serious turnaround on offense, the Steelers may finish with just the two points they got on a safety on the opening kickoff.

Tennessee leads 10-2 heading into the fourth quarter. Jackie Battle scored late in the first half to account for the only touchdown of the game.

Steelers C Maurkice Pouncey was taken off on a cart after suffering a knee injury in Sunday's game against Tennessee.

Update: Post Gazette reporter Ed Bouchette tweeted during halftime a team official said Pouncey's situation was "not good," strongly indicating his injury was as bad as it looked.

Kelvin Beachum remained at center, as the Steelers offensive line has been dominated in this game.

It doesn't look good, to put it mildly.

The Steelers needed just one drive to suffer their first injury on their offensive line. This one appears to be a significant one to three-time All Pro center Maurkice Pouncey.

He was rolled on while blocking during the Steelers' first offensive possession in Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans.

The drive came just after the Steelers got two points on a safety by kick returner Darius Reynaud on the opening kickoff. The Steelers were 3-for-3 on third downs on the drive, and looked very strong offensively. However, running back Isaac Redman fumbled at the goal line, giving the Titans a touchback - a continuation of one of the most active five minutes the Steelers have seen in quite a while.

Not to speculate, but it simply did not look good for Pouncey. Kelvin Beachum, who started at tight end in the game, replaced him at center.

We'll have more updates as they happen.
