Steelers Injury Report: Shake up in secondary might be inevitable

The Pittsburgh Steelers practiced Thursday, and they were without one of their starting safeties, which makes his availability for Sunday uncertain.

The Pittsburgh Steelers were back to work Tuesday, and their injury report continues to remain in flux as they approach their Week 13 game against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday Night Football. Wednesday's workout showed fans Ben Roethlisberger seems to be healed from his head injury, and Thursday's practice report echoed that sentiment as No. 7 was a full participant for the second day.

The Steelers got more good news on the injury front as Ryan Shazier (concussion) was upgraded from a limited participant Wednesday to a full participant in practice Thursday. Joining Shazier back at practice was James Harrison (knee), who sat out Wednesday, likely getting a veteran's day off. Also, Mike Mitchell, who sat out of Wednesday's practice with knee inflammation, returned to practice and was a full participant; however, his partner at the safety position this Sunday might not be Will Allen.

Allen, who wasn't on Wednesday's injury report, missed practice Thursday, leaving his availability Sunday in jeopardy. Many fans were fed up with Allen's poor play against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 12, and many suggested having Robert Golden resume his position at safety, which he occupied when Allen missed several weeks with an ankle injury.

Friday is the final day of practice before the big AFC showdown in prime time Sunday, and Allen's participation will be worth keeping an eye on moving forward.

Others who missed practice were Heath Miller (ribs) and Sean Spence (hamstring), also leaving their availability up in the air. Martavis Bryant (hip) and Matt Spaeth (knee) both returned to practice in a limited capacity Thursday. The Steelers practice at normal time Friday, and will release their final injury report before the 8:25 p.m EDT kickoff against the Colts Sunday night.
