As the Pittsburgh Steelers prepare for the St. Louis Rams this Sunday in Week-3 action, Mike Tomlin discussed injuries on the roster, and the only name which was mentioned was an injury to backup nose tackle Daniel McCullers. Tomlin stated McCullers was experiencing some swelling in his knee which could affect his participation in practice this week and in the game on Sunday.
McCullers' injury could have an impact on the team's depth chart, as Cam Thomas would be the natural fit to backup Steve McLendon at the nose tackle position. This, in turn, would lead to another backup tackle getting a helmet on game day. This might be rookie L.T. Walton or newly-acquired Caushaud Lyons. McCullers' availability will be worth following throughout the week.

Ryan Shazier's name wasn't mentioned in Tomlin's report, and that's good news for the second-year linebacker who not only is coming off of the best game of his professional career, but also because his name was on the injury report last week leading up to the 49ers game.
Shazier had been dealing with a knee injury, but left the Week 2 game in the fourth quarter with a shoulder injury. It looks as if Shazier's shoulder injury qualifies for the "bumps and bruises" category in Tomlin's injury report. Good news for the Steelers and their fans heading into Week 3.

Cortez Allen was inactive for last week's game due to a knee injury and, when asked about his injury at the press conference, Tomlin didn't offer much information on his availability for the upcoming game. Tomlin did say that Allen's knee injury isn't one that looks like it will require surgery, but the team is taking a wait-and-see approach to his return. In the meantime, Ross Cockrell, Brandon Boykin and Antwon Blake will see significantly more reps with Allen out of the lineup.
