Just when you thought it was okay to start celebrating the return of Ladarius Green to the Pittsburgh Steelers offense, he experienced a setback.

Now, to be honest, the team did not officially state he experienced a setback, but just that he is still in the concussion protocol and is listed as ‘Questionable’ for the game vs. the Miami Dolphins Sunday. However, when a player is a full participant two days in a row, all that stands in their way of returning to the field is final clearance from an independent doctor. Between Thursday and Friday’s practices, something must have gone wrong.

Green did not practice Friday, and went from a shoe-in to play Sunday, which would be his first game action since getting his concussion against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 15, to watching his chances of playing Sunday plummet.

In most concussion protocols, if a player experiences re-occurring signs or symptoms of a concussion, it sets them back in the protocol, forcing them to take more time to heal. It is the prudent approach to brain injuries, but can be extremely frustrating for the organization and the fan base.

However, not all news from the Steelers was bad on Friday. Stephon Tuitt (knee) was left off the injury report, meaning he is good-to-go for Sunday’s tilt with the Dolphins. Nonetheless, both Anthony Chickillo (ankle) and Ricardo Mathews (ankle) were ruled out for the upcoming playoff game.

Joining Green as questionable were Robert Golden (ankle) and Vince Williams (shoulder). As for Miami, cornerback Byron Maxwell (ankle) is listed as doubtful, and most likely won’t play on Sunday.
