The Pittsburgh Steelers have been bitten by the injury bug, but this wasn't just the usual bug which leaves players with slight injuries. This is the bug which decimates a roster to the point where nine players -- yes, nine -- are being ruled out for the upcoming game.
The Steelers will be without the services of three starters (Shazier, Golden and Gilbert) for the second straight week, and the situation at right tackle is officially at Def Con 5. With both Marcus Gilbert and Ryan Harris ruled out for Week 5, the team will turn to Chris Hubbard to start at right tackle vs. the formidable Jets defensive front.
It is safe to say you can expect a lot of tight end help, as well as running backs chipping, on the right side throughout the game to help ease the burden placed on Hubbard in his first NFL start at right tackle.
Several players practiced throughout the week, but were listed as out, suggesting they experienced a setback. The most recent was Roosevelt Nix, who practice fully on Wednesday and Thursday, only to be ruled out.
As for the Jets, they will be without Eric Decker for another week, and a good chance they will be without Darrele Revis, who remains hampered by a bad hamstring. Not the same number of injuries, but the Jets' injuries certainly change the dynamic of the game from both a schematic standpoint and an overall approach.
