Steelers Injury Report: Nothing changes, leaving Markus Wheaton's availability in doubt for Week 1

With the Steelers preparing for the Redskins on Monday Night Football, the team was again without their No. 2 wide receiver, Markus Wheaton.

New day, same injury report.

If you followed the news yesterday of the Pittsburgh Steelers first official injury report, then you heard about Cody Wallace, Roosevelt Nix and Markus Wheaton not practicing. Friday's practice has come and gone, and the injury report hasn't changed.

The news is rather shocking, as Wheaton has sat out the majority of the preseason with his shoulder injury, but also concerning. This situation is very much like Bud Dupree's where the team waits for the injury to naturally heal, and eventually be left with the only option being to have surgery to repair the injury. There is a chance the Steelers are being overly cautious with the injury, so it doesn't last all season, in which case you would swap missing Week 1 for him being healthy in Week 2.

Nonetheless, it should be noted the door isn't closed on Wheaton playing Monday night in our nation's capital. Wheaton still has practice Saturday before the team travels for the prime time game. However, without him being at least a partial participant in Saturday's practice would mean the No. 2 wide receiver is likely out for the first game of 2016.

There is a silver lining in this cloud, and that would be how Cameron Heyward and Javon Hargrave were both full participants for the second day in a row. Their participation in practice Thursday was a step in the right direction, but you never really know how the body will respond. It seems pretty clear there were no setbacks and the pair of defensive linemen look prepared to play against Washington.
