Steelers Film Room: Watch the Steelers' short-yardage offense succeed, fail against the Browns

The Steelers have a ways to go in terms of their short-yardage work, but it's not only play-calling. Simple, fundamental execution is falling short as well.

Ron Schwane-USA TODAY Sports

Short-yardage situations have plagued the Steelers during the last few games. We dug into those plays and broke down a few from the Steelers' recent loss to the Cleveland Browns.

The results may not shock you; the Steelers aren't converting enough of them. But it's not strictly the play-calling. Basic execution isn't being met on every play. Sometimes it's the failure of one player as seen on the film. Sometimes it's a schematic error combined with a poor play-call. Sometimes, the other guy just does a better job.

There are dozens of things that happen on any one football play and it's difficult to get to the point where everything runs seamlessly. At this point in the season, the Steelers' offense appears to be getting further away from that level of execution. These plays reveal issues on multiple levels, but there's also one that runs very well. Which one of these plays will we see more of as the Steelers advance through the 2014 season?
