Steelers Injury Report: Ryan Shazier and Shamarko Thomas out vs. Browns

Although returning to the practice field, rookie ILB Ryan Shazier has been ruled out of the game Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.

Jason Bridge-USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Steelers have released their final status report leading into the game Sunday against the Cleveland Browns, and rookie inside linebacker Ryan Shazier (knee) and safety Shamarko Thomas (hamstring) have joined cornerback Ike Taylor (broken arm) as players who will not be available for participation Sunday.

Other than those three players, the Steelers remain a healthy unit as Brett Keisel (not injury related), Troy Polamalu (not injury related), Mike Mitchell (not injury related) and Heath Miller (not injury related) are all listed as probable and will be suiting up against the Browns on Sunday.

The Steelers will need a healthy roster Sunday, and the fact wide receiver Markus Wheaton isn't listed on the team's injury report is a good sign he has fully recovered from his groin injury that could have hampered him last week against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

With Thomas not in the lineup, veteran safety Will Allen would be the next man up in terms of the safety position if Polamalu or Mitchell had to miss any amount of time. Sean Spence will continue to fill in for Shazier at inside linebacker, and was able to be on the field for every defensive snap against the Jaguars in Week 5, a first for him in his injury-plagued NFL career.

The Steelers travel to Cleveland for a 1 p.m. ET kickoff Sunday against the Browns.
